Todays Recipe is my absolute favorite banana bread recipe. My grandma has always made this and I love when she does. I decided I needed this recipe to make lots and lots of bread, and of course grandma was willing to give me the recipe.

Recipe my grandmother uses to make banana bread. It has always been my favorite banana bread.

  • 1 1/3 cup Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup Shortening
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Mashed Ripe Bananas
  • 1/2 cup Walnut Pieces
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla


  1. Preheat oven to 350 

  2. In small bowl mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 

  3. Cream shortening and sugar , until light and fluffy. 

  4. Add eggs 1 at a time beating after each addition. 

  5. Add bananas  and vanilla and mix well. 

  6. Add flour mixture in small amounts, mixing after each addition. 

  7. Add walnuts and mix 

  8. Grease 8x4x2 loaf pan and pour mixture into pan.

  9. Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
